We are a happy group of 5 adult people and had the plan to make a
trekking tour together in the desert of Morocco during the well tempered
season of November.

What we found was:
– the incredibly hospitable family of Hafid and impressing people with
their joy of life
– 4 super nice trekking guides and camel guides, even camel whisperers
– 8 gentle soft dromedaries for the transport of our luggage and
sometimes for safe and funny riding trips
– wonderful delicate food arranged with love
– great landscape impressions
– a genious starry sky
– adventurous animals
– genious survival techniques of desert plants
– deep tranquillity and silence
– lots of fun over the days and during the shared evenings in the tent
and on the camp-fire in the loneliness of the desert

Thanks to Hafid and his Nomads-team Ydir, Lahsen and Mohammed we were
able to become familiar with the common day life, the genious food and
the culture of the nomads and some of their ancient stories. Handmade
music, singing and dancing was also a part of our life together. Thank
you for sharing this very special tour with us and super friendly nomad
people. It has enriched us and shown to us a new perspective of the
world in Morocco which is wonderful. We carry all the nice memories in
our hearts and will not forget the people and the very impressing
experiences of this journey.

Mein Kameltrekking war vom ersten bis zum letzten Tag einfach perfekt. Angefangen von der Abholung vom Flughafen in Marrakech, der Fahrt zum Riad, am nächsten Tag Weiterfahrt nach Zagora, alles hat prima geklappt. Besonders erwähnen möchte ich auch die Gastfreundschaft, die ich von Hafid und seiner Familie vor und nach dem Kameltrekking erfahren durfte. Das Kameltrekking war dann doch das besondere Erlebnis. Abseits der “Touristenpfade” waren wir unterwegs, 3 Kamele, 2 fürsorgliche Begleiter und ich. Die Tour führte uns zuerst über den Djebel Bani, durch einen Nebenfluss des Draa und dann in die Weiten der Sahara. Auch der Besuch bei einer Nomadenfamilie war mir ein sehr eindrückliches Erlebnis. Unterwegs zu sein, die Natur zu spüren, die Stille zu hören und immer sicher umsorgt zu sein, das machte dieses Trekking perfekt. Natürlich müssen die von Youssef immer perfekt und lecker zubereiteten Mahlzeiten erwähnt werden. Was ich auch besonders genossen habe, am “Tisch” gab es kein Plastikgeschirr, wir hatten Porzellanteller und tranken unseren Tee oder Kaffee immer aus Gläsern. Eben “Tausend Sterne Hotel”, nicht nur nachts!

Lieber Hafid,

in diesem Urlaub war alles anders als sonst, weil ich das erste Mal in Afrika war. Bisher bin ich mit meinen Eltern mit Rucksack und Zelt durch Deutschland, Frankreich, Tschechien, Estland Montenegro, Schweden und Island gewandert. Soweit weg von zu Hause wie dieses Mal, war ich noch nie. Die Reise war für mich nicht so anstrengend, weil ich ja die meiste Zeit auf dem Maultier oder Kamel reiten durfte – das habe ich besonders geliebt. Mit Dir, Ali und Ibrahim hatten wir eine schöne Zeit im Atlas-Gebirge, aber die Sahara hat mir etwas besser gefallen, weil ich Sanddünen und Dattelpalmen vorher nur auf Bildern gesehen hatte. Jetzt habe ich mal gespürt, wie es ist, wenn man barfuß durch den Wüstensand läuft und auf einer Sanddüne runterrutscht. Das war, als wir mit Yedir und den Dromedaren Asgar, Aschgri und Tachnuscht einen schönen Ausflug auf die Größte der Sanddünen gemacht haben. Tachnuscht ist noch ein Kamelfohlen und mein liebstes Kamel. Die letzten zwei Nächte buken Yedir und Said abends im Sand am Lagerfeuer Fladenbrot. Das war sehr knusprig und lecker und es hat gar nicht geknirscht beim Kauen, weil Yedir den ganzen Sand vorher abgeklopft hatte. Yedir kann sogar schon etwas auf Deutsch sagen: “Rrrrolmops”. Das klang immer sehr lustig. In der Wüste haben wir unter dem Sternenhimmel geschlafen. Mir sind gar nicht so schnell so viele Wünsche eingefallen, wie ich Sternschnuppen am Nachthimmel gesehen habe. In der letzten Nacht hatte sich sogar ein echt großer Skorpion in unser Zelt unter den Rucksack geschlichen. Zum Glück haben wir draußen unter freiem Himmel geschlafen. Am Morgen hat sich Yedir dann um den Skorpion “gekümmert”. Außer den beiden Agamen-Arten hätte ich gern noch mehr Wüstentiere wir Gazellen, Fenneks und Schakale gesehen. Als Souvenir habe ich mir aus der Wüste Steine mit Fossilien drauf und getrocknete Gazellenkötteln mitgenommen. Leider konntest Du nicht mitkommen, da Du in der Berberschule mithelfen musstest, weil die Lehrer fehlten. In Zagora hat mir besonders die Kasbah und Dein Palmengarten mit dem alten Wohnhaus aus Lehm gefallen, das ein bisschen wie eine Burg war. Dass Du mir etwas Arabisch beigebracht hast, das fand ich auch gut, denn das will ich jetzt lernen. Das war mein schönster Urlaub, den ich bisher hatte!

I and my partner spent 5 days camel trekking with Said and Mohammed and 2 nights at Hafids’ family
house in the mid-June 2018. This was the most extraordinary experience and was made even more
fun, educative and interesting by the people mentioned above.
We arrived in Zagora from Marrakech when Fotor (Ramadan breakfast) had already started. Still, Hafid
and the rest of the family waited for us to begin. There, we had the pleasure to meet his family, hear
a number of stories, especially about the various altruistic projects they are involved in, experience
Ramadan and sleep under the stars.
The next morning, after a short drive with a car at the base of the mountains, we met our 3 camels and
began our journey. Throughout the next 5 days, we met nomad Berbers and a variety of animals,
experienced, sometimes, difficult heat levels, enjoyed the marvelous landscapes from the black desert
to dunes, and shared a number of stories which, honestly, helped us understand a completely different
lifestyle and enjoy it. The list of our experiences goes on but it is more interesting to be surprised,
right?
Mohammed and Said were the perfect companions for us! At times, we enjoyed the peacefulness in
combination with the never-ending landscape which put us in deep thought. Other times, Said would
tell us fascinating stories about his desert experiences and the nomad life sparking discussions or in
the evening sang for us with Mohammed while the fire flames continued burning the timber. The main
issue (not really an issue if you’re flexible and playful) was the language. Mohammed speaks French
(we don’t) and Said English which is enough for explanations but if you want to have a high caliber
conversation it becomes difficult. But hey, Sahara is all about pragmatism and adaption. The guys are
extremely attentive and reactive so in no time we came up with tactics to tackle this barrier. Lastly,
they took care of us very well, we never felt endangered in any way.
If you’re an adventurous person focused on sustainable tourism and wish to have a relationship with
your caravan rather than a service person walking beside you – just write these guys an e-mail, it
doesn’t get better.

April 2018 “When we – a couple in its 60s – included a 3 days desert hike into our Morocco round trip we did not know, that this hike would become the highlight in our overall very nice and eventful journey.
The desert itself was an experience for us, the barren landscape, either stony or sandy, sometimes a shrub or a acacia, the dry air, the silence, the heat of the day and the chilliness of the night, the beauty of the starry sky.
We were guided and accompanied by Hafid and Mohammed, who are as familiar with the desert as I´m with the the streets of my hometown, who can handle their camels as good (or better) than I can handle my car and who furthermore know how to perpare excelent food like salads, vegetables and meat cooked in a tagine, Couscous, Omeletts, bread baked in the sand and of course tee, everything is delicious.
Last but not least: Mohammed knows how to present Fashion (multiple ways to tie a turban) and both know how to sing, accompanied by a water canister converted into a percussion instrument, powerful and heartbreaking berber songs.
For sure we will still talk about this experience many years later, the tour is definitely worth any Cent we spent on it and it might be that this was not the last desert hike we made.”

Lieber Hafid, liebe Monika, es war uns beiden ein außerordentliches Vergnügen! Wir hatten wundervolle Bgeleiter und wir durften vieles lernen. Und wir konnten ohne Bedenken ausprobieren, was mit zwei künstlichen Knien (er) und einem halbwegs verheilten Bandscheibenvorfall (ich) doch so alles möglich ist. Hello Hafid, Idir and Lachen, many many thanks for being able to share a wonderful few days with you all, your interesting culture, beautiful countryside and  warm traditions. It has been an absolutely amazing experience for Mirjam and myself, and one we we will never forget! You have all been truly beautiful companions with so many moments of fun and Berber/Irish/German jokes, loads of information and much time for reflection and true admiration of your land and people. Thanks again to all of you and we will of course send you all the photos (many megabytes I am sure) when we get back to Germany.
