Camel trekking and desert hiking
Long hikes lasting 6 days or more, as well as short tours lasting 2 to 5 days through vast dune landscapes and along secluded shepherd trails in the rocky and stony desert of the Jebel Bani Mountains. Homestay with nomadic families is possible. Special tours on request.
Types of journey
1. desert treks as a caravan journey, where the dromedaries carry all the luggage.
2. hiking tours in remote desert regions with a support vehicle.
3. extended jeep tours in the desert with short hikes.

Trekking-Information
Camel trekking keeps the caravan tradition of the Sahara alive. Fair travel and exchange of views: At Akabar – Sahara Treks nomads work with their own dromedaries. Guests and team are like one big family on the road.

Under ‘News – Travellers wanted’ you will find dates for tours that are taking place.
To ensure you have a pleasant journey and a stress-free stay, we offer the following services: taxi transfers from the airport or hotel in Marrakesh on various routes to Zagora and back, meals and guided tours to places of interest along the way and in Marrakesh.
There are 3 options for overnight accommodation before the hike:
- Hotel in the palm gardens of Amezrou (Zagora) or Zagora (town)
- overnight stay in a tent with dinner and breakfast at the starting point of the hike, price 40 EUR
- overnight stay with dinner and breakfast with a Berber family/semi-nomads in the countryside, price 40 EUR plus 70 EUR for transport and guide
As Hafid and his team have extensive contacts in Morocco, he will also be happy to plan the following for you:
- mountain bike tours in the Atlas Mountains
- mule trekking in Ait Bougoumez
- hiking in the M’Ngoun area (4,071m) as well as in Anti-Atlas mountains
- sightseeing and city visits
If the lowest price is the most important factor for you, we may not be the right provider for you. At Akabar – Sahara Treks, we place great importance on quality. We offer excellent service, fresh meals and fair wages for the local people who make your trip possible. As Berber Muslims, we welcome you to our family home on the first night and offer you dinner and accommodation.
Please be informed that we do not offer last-minute tours. In order for us to tailor your trip to your wishes, we ask that you notify us at least one week in advance.
